James Preller had a post entitled Best Last Lines From Books in which he listed a few of his favorites chosen from a list compiled by Stylist magazine. He threw in a couple of lines from his own books, Hiccups for Elephant (ouch, that still smarts!) and A Pirate's Guide to First Grade, and it got me thinking I'd like to play this game too!
I may not be published, but I do have some stories, and I thought it would be interesting to list out some of the last lines to those and see how they stand up. I also thought it might be interesting to throw in the first lines as well....so here it goes!
Going Batty
There was a young bat who had nothing to do, and so she climbed into a big shoe.
The bat learned that good friends are not hard to find.
Hiccuping Hubert
All the animals of the barnyard had gathered in front of the red barn for the big concert.
“Sorry, hiccup-oink.” Here we go again!
Monkey Trouble
I went to the playground today, and wore my special fairy wings.
As I now walk home I can’t help but glance behind to see if monkeys follow, and wonder what amazing adventures I’ll be having here tomorrow.
These are the three stories I've submitted over the summer, and here's a couple from books I'm reading now.
The Emerald Atlas by John Knopf
The hat in question was owned by Mrs. Constance Lovestock.
And, smiling, she let herself be led away by her brother and sister.
Michael Vey The Prisoner of Cell 25
"Have you found the last two?"
"It's the rise of the Electroclan."
Okay, so all these quotes got me thinking (warning danger...Beth is thinking!!!) If there was a story written about me (or you...) what would the first and last line of our books be?
Let's play the game! This is your homework (whoever may be reading this...) think about what your first and last lines would be and then post them here! I'll do the same...I need time to let thinks peculate. If you're shy and don't want to leave a comment you can e-mail it to me. Just click here and I'll post it without your name attached!
Okay, get thinking!
