What's on Your Mind?

Okay, if you know me as a sweet natured, innocent minded person than please read no further.  I don't want to shatter any delusions you may have of me.  For those of you who truly know me, read on.

I had a dream the other night.  Now dreaming is not an uncommon experience for me, I often have very vivid and recurring dreams.  But every so often there comes a dream that seems to emerge from no where, with no explanation, that kind of - well, freaks me out.    This is one of those dreams...

I was picking up my father at his office building (plaza) apparently to take him to dinner.  I had just become a dentist and believe we were celebrating...As I pulled up to the building and got out of my car a gentleman came out of one of the offices.  I suddenly knew he was my patient.  I smiled and said, "I'm so sorry we had to reschedule your appointment the other day."  He replied, "yes that's okay, but I really need to see you."  His voice was urgent.  "Could you please take a look now?"  My dad smiled wide, ooozing with pride, "Go ahead Bethany, I'll wait out here for you.  You may borrow my daughter for just a bit."  He winked.

So the gentleman and I go into his office where he shows me a large monitor that is hooked up to a video camera (really a Wii remote) which he hands to me.  "I've got it all set up so you can see my mouth on the screen he says (like an ultrasound machine...)  "Okay," I smile reassuringly, "what seems to be the problem?"  "I've got bugs in my mouth."  He says plainly.  "Come again?"  "Bugs, in my mouth."  He must mean bacteria, I think to myself as I lean him back in the dentist chair that suddenly appears.  "Open wide"  I stick the Wii remote in his mouth and look at the screen.

Bugs.  Lots and lots of little black bugs were scurrying around his pink gums and over his teeth.  "Wow," I say calmy, "you really do have bugs."  "I know."  He says, "I try not to think about it."  I look again into his mouth and spot a red sore, like a pimple on his upper gum.  "Well, perhaps the bugs are attracted to this sore in your mouth.  Let me put some cream on it."  As I go to apply the cream, a bug suddenly bores its way out from within the gentleman's gum, leaving a tiny hole through which more and more bugs climb in and out.  At this point I say, "Oh.  You know I think this might be more than a dental problem.  I think you should probably call your primary care physician."

Then, I wake up.
I MEAN - WHAT WAS THAT ALL ABOUT?

Usually I can link my dreams back to an occurrence in my previous day; something that happened, something I watched, something I ate...but I am at a loss here.  The thing that disturbs me the most is not how vivid this dream was (and believe me it was vivid.  Every little scurry, the movement of the gum as it was being pushed apart by the emerging bug...hd quality...) that it didn't seem to phase me.  At no point did I jump or scream, or wince at the sight, or even feel sympathy for this poor guy.  Nope it was all just business...strange...very strange...
